Eight killed, 13 injured in mass shooting in Serbia; suspect at large

Another mass shooting that took place near a Serbian town left eight dead and 13 injured.

According to reports, the shooting occurred late Thursday night in the Mladenovac area after an attacker opened fire with an automatic weapon on people from a moving vehicle and then fled the scene.

Shortly after the incident was reported, the police arrived at the scene, cordoned off the area and took the injured person to a nearby hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt to nab the suspect, who is believed to be a 21-year-old man. Police used drones and helicopters to locate the suspect in the area where he is believed to be hiding. It should be noted that police officials are yet to release a statement on the shooting incident.

 The minister of internal affairs Bratislav Gašić condemned the mass shooting and called the attack a "terrorist act". It comes a day after a 13-year-old boy killed eight classmates and a security guard after opening fire at a Belgrade elementary school. There were seven girls among the 8 students. The shooter was identified as Kosta Kecmanovic and had been studying at the school since 2019.

In a statement, the police said that the perpetrator used his father's gun for the shooting. "Teneger used his father's gun to shoot," police said in a statement, adding that he had written a list of children to be killed. Police also said that Kecmanovic's parents were arrested. "As Kecmanovic is too young to face criminal charges, he will be sent to a psychiatric institution," the police added.

Earlier in 2013, a war veteran shot and killed 13 people in the central Serbian village of Velika Ivanca.
